Zebari meets ambassadors of the permanent members of the Security Council to get Iraq out of Chapter VII

BAGHDAD / NINA/ Iraqi Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari met with the ambassadors of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council in Baghdad and Deputy Representative of the United Nations (UNAMI) in Iraq to inform them of Iraq’s situation and view to the discussions and deliberations currently under way for a new resolution in the Council about getting Iraq out from Chapter VII.

A statement of the Ministry said that Zebari confirmed, during the meeting, the importance that the new resolution should be clear that Iraq has fulfilled its international obligations as stipulated in UN Security Council resolutions relating to Iraq- Kuwait relations.

He expressed his government’s appreciation and supportive for the positions of all the five permanent members for both Iraq and Kuwait to resolve the remaining issues resulted from Saddam’s invasion of Kuwait, according to the statement.

For their part, ambassadors praised the great efforts made by the Iraqi and Kuwaiti parties to resolve their differences through peaceful and civilization means and taking into account the interests of both countries.
